Tonight, Dr. Ken Wilson, pastor of the Orchard Church in Traverse City, will be officiating the dedication of my son. Dr. Wilson will certainly say some things about Caedmon being dedicated to the service of God. I’m not to worried about that. I’m more worried about Caedmon’s father.
I will use our time tonight to dedicate myself to loving my son. I dedicate to teaching my son all that it takes to be a kind, compassionate adult. I dedicate myself to being a living testimony to Jesus Christ. I dedicate myself to avoid indoctrinating, or manipulating my son. I will dedicated myself to never use my son as a means, and always see him as an end.
I will dedicate myself to always being there.
I’m not worried about his mother. She makes me think of maternal heroines.
I think of Hannah and Samuel.
I think of Mary and Jesus.
I think of these extraordinary women and I am grateful that my son has such a wonderful mother. Tonight, we declare our dedication. Tomorrow, we will celebrate the divinity of motherhood.
God bless all of you parents, especially moms!
